Patch is an empowering magazine that boldly redefines the art community by advocating for underrepresented artists. With its unorthodox and eclectic approach, Patch creates a vibrant community that inspires, supports, and empowers artists on their creative journeys.

Problem
space Many craft magazines on the market today cater primarily to older audiences, often overlooking the interests and preferences of younger artists. These magazines often lag behind current art trends and fail to provide the innovative content that younger artists seek.

I wanted to create a magazine that had and held strong core values and helped teach creative practices in a new light.

                         Patch is:
Space                         *Eclectic
                        *Unorthodox
                        *Diverse
                        *Bold

Wordmark
space When ideating with the wordmark, I experimented with ways to make it look bold and patch-like or funky and unorthodox to help translate the mood of Patch.

I landed on a wordmark with unconventional curves and intertwined letters to evoke a unique patchwork feeling.

Typeface
space After comparing several typefaces, I landed on Americane, a wood type inspired sans serif, and Wans, a modern rounded sans serif. These typefaces complement the funky counterspaces and rounded curves of the wordmark.

Page Size and Grid space When deciding on the paper size for this publication, I decided on a 16x9 aspect ratio for the spreads, which led to each page being 8x9. Then, I added a four-column layout to help organize my content.
